16th Workshop designs and makes handmade modern wood furniture of craft, authenticity and permanence. We are a husband and wife team, both trained as architects, and the design of our furniture is a collaborative effort which produces pieces that are functional and delightful. We believe that good design makes us more observant participants in our world and this, in turn, helps us to recognize the value and beauty that surrounds us everyday. We believe in modernism not as a means of stylizing but as an approach that helps us resolve multiple constraints into a cohesive design. We consider ourselves furniture architects simply forming space on a smaller scale and conceiving of our work as part of a larger context rather than as isolated works of object art. We attempt to produce work that is without style and self-expression and that is real and utilitarian.
