WantedDesign is a platform dedicated to promoting design and fostering the local and international creative community throughout the year.

Neo Nature, re-thinking
our relationship with nature in the urban context

WantedDesign Brooklyn is the largest gathering of international schools during NYCxDESIGN. It is an incredible platform for American and international schools to present their projects to a broad audience, get valuable feedback from industry professionals and connect with each other. Understanding the crucial need for schools to build an international network and for students to have experience outside of campus as they prepare for their careers, WantedDesign Brooklyn at Industry City offers two primary ways for design schools to take part: School Exhibitions and the Design Schools Workshop, presented with Core77 with the support of Tarkett.

The WantedDesign Schools Workshop, is a 5-day collaborative design challenge for 50-60 students from 10 International Design Schools. The workshop is conducted in partnership with one of the participating schools with the contribution of guests mentors and industry experts.

The 2020 school partner will be Art Center College of Design
and the theme is “
Neo Nature, re-thinking our relationship with nature in the urban context”.

The goal of this workshop is to create a heightened awareness in sustainability and ecological issues and to create innovative solutions for present and forward thinking scenarios.
This workshop will consider issues of sustainability through the exploration and design of: public furnishings, objects, interactive installations, play equipment and experiences that have us re-thinking our fragile relationship with nature in the urban context.

With 75% of the U.S. population living in the urban environment, our contact with the natural world has become increasingly minimal, particularly from the vantage point of our urban city centers. Workshop participants will be asked to re-examine and re-define our symbiosis with nature, in this age of environmental crisis and impact. The context of our exploration will be the urban condition. As we become more nomadic less structured we tend to spend more time in what is known as the contemporary agora.

“WantedDesign was a great opportunity to collaborate with an astonishing amount of different design culture from all around the world! It was also a unique occasion to participate in the Design Week in the greatest city of the world. How enriching it was to create during these too short weeks! I could not have been prouder to be one of the five chosen students from Strate School of Design. I challenged myself like never before, using software I was not very familiar with while working in teams in a language that is not my mother tongue. I would recommend the experience to any design student, for the meetings one can do and the opportunities one meet there are beyond compare. ”
