The new IC Store by WantedDesign

The new IC Store by WantedDesign

In 2014, WantedDesign Brooklyn found its home at Industry City in Sunset Park Brooklyn. We worked to bring inspiring installations and a focus on design education to the event during NYCxDESIGN, the city’s celebration of global design. Two years ago, we opened the first WantedDesign Store at Industry City and today, it officially reopened in a larger, renovated space at the entrance of the main Food Hall at 274 36th Street.

The IC Store by WantedDesign has always been home to a well-curated assortment of design objects from around the globe and in addition to these unique items, the new space includes a presentation of the best work by designers and makers at Industry City. The Made in IC section includes work from Egg Collective, a design company established in 2011 by three female designers whose work is created in a workshop in Industry City, to JK Wickwax, a company creating one-of-a-kind rock candles, and more.

Juniper was founded in 2011 and became an early pioneer in the soon-to-be burgeoning Brooklyn lighting designs scene and have been represented in the IC Store by WantedDesign since it opened. Shant Madjarian, the brand’s founder, shared with us, some thoughts about their choice to manufacture at Industry City. “Manufacturing in Brooklyn may seem illogical at first thought, but being part of the design community at Industry City and working alongside studios like WantedDesign offers a mix of talent, collaboration and client engagement that can’t be replicated anywhere else.”

Another perennial IC Store by WantedDesign is the Brooklyn Candle Studio. Each of their pieces is created by hand in their studio at Industry City. Known for their calm, botanical fragrances, Brooklyn Candle Studio was founded by Tamara Mayne, a former art director. She said, “the curation of the IC Store by WantedDesign is impeccable and we are honored to have had our candles alongside so many well-designed, beautiful products since the store’s inception. Being a part of the Industry City and WantedDesign communities for the past 3 years has connected us with like-minded makers, design-conscious customers, and events that only happen here.”

The other Industry City tenants who are on view in the IC Store include Micol Ceramics, Jack Garrity, Saskia de Vries, Allison Samuels, Coral & Tusk, Bellboy New York, Alexandra Ferguson, Flavor Paper, Stuf NYC, Danielle Trofe, By Boe, Christophe Pourny, Louis Lim, Roll & Hill, and more.

The IC Store by WantedDesign is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11am to 5pm and is accessible from the D, N & R trains at 36th Street. We’re frequently receiving new merchandise, so stop in regularly and don’t forget to do your holiday shopping with us and stay tuned for holiday activities for families.
