Join us in Brooklyn at our Industry City store

Coming on the heels of our Industry City store opening, we will be using the space to get people and design together during the next few chilly months. Including Cristel, The American Design Club, Strand, The Impossible Project and Adorn Milk, we’re collaborating with some pretty rad companies to put on a gamut of festive events in November and December. In spirit of the season, we are thrilled to present holiday related activities including book signings, pop-up shops, cooking demonstrations, tea parties, happy hours and so on.

With a trifecta holiday shopping manual supported by a multi-tiered event line-up, our staff has put together a roster of their favorite items, a gift guide, and an under $25 present list. As for the items included, they run the gamut from a carbon folding knife to Mason Jar candles, truffle salts, and Loop de Loup handmade jewelry with an industrial yet modern aesthetic. Which is to say: There truly is something in the next few months at WantedDesign for everyone —bosses and coworkers, aunts and uncles, significant others, and so on… Like the IC Store by WD page on Facebook to get updates on new arrivals and events.

As we prepare for WantedDesign in the New Year, we wanted to set the gears in motion by introducing our ever-growing team. Via our very own workforce, we aim to invigorate design into the day-to-day humdrum by way of grouping and sorting items that are only available at the Industry City store. In effort to spread design into this festive time of year, we offer you our handpicked seasonal guides and activities we’ve lovingly assembled. We are look forward to all things design, all-the-time, as we move into 2016! More

In 2016, WantedDesign will celebrate its 6th anniversary and the returning Launch Pad program.

We created the Launch Pad for our visitors to come together to be surprised and inspired. If you have a new product to present to manufacturers, The Launch Pad is the best and most affordable way to be part of the International Design event at NYCxDESIGN.
The Launch Pad applicants must submit their project before January 21st, 2016.
WantedDesign Manhattan is located at The Terminal Stores (11th Avenue between 27th and 28th Street) in West Chelsea, a few blocks south of the Jacob Javits Center (ICFF), the Highline, the design galleries, and the Meatpacking District.

The Launch Pad program is supported by Design Milk.

We are open, come shop Wednesday to Sunday

The Industry City store by WantedDesign debuted this fall–and it was a great success! Thousands of people came out to Industry City to visit us as we opened our doors for the first time. The store is nearby the Brooklyn Flea, which recently moved to IC for the winter, and the IC Open Studios, a bi-annual event that allows visitors to tour more than 100 studios across the Industry City complex.

In our ongoing efforts to support American design and independent designers, we were proud to see the enthusiasm of customers as they discovered local artisans and products. Many of those items were made right within Industry City from companies like Brooklyn Candle Studio or the jewelry brand ByBoe.
We are open every week, Wednesday to Sunday11am to 6pm, so come visit us! More

A peak into the Seattle design scene

In September, WantedDesign packed up our raincoats (which, luckily, went unused) and flew out to Seattle where we hosted an event in partnership with Design Within Reach, Be Original Americas and Gray magazine. DWR is on a mission to make authentic modern design accessible, and we were honored to team up with them to reach out to local designers and design lovers. We had a great talk about authenticity in design with guest speakers Emeco CEO and President Gregg Buchbinder, designer Chris Hardy, and the talented trio behind Brooklyn-based Egg Collective.

However, before we got down to business, we had some time to traverse the city and learn more about the vibrant local design scene. We visited the latest exhibits at the Bellevue Arts Museum, the Pacific Northwest’s preeminent center for art, craft, and design, toured the design studios of Urbancase and Graypants, and shopped at local concept stores along the way. That was all before stopping by the famous Seattle Central Library designed by architect Rem Koolhaas, a glass and steel structure that won the AIA Honor Award for Architecture in 2005.

The city’s spirit of innovation was palpable, from a true respect for the environment to an overall sense of authenticity. We fell in love with Seattle, perhaps for the same reasons than Darin Montgomery, founder of Urbancase, originally from Colorado, explained to us: “There are many things that keep me in Seattle: the natural beauty, energy of the city, and the people are at the top of my list.” more
